What is a CCAC?

A counsellor with the designation of CCAC is a Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor through the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation, or CACCF. When working with a CCAC you are working with a professional with extensive knowledge and experience in the field of mental health and addictions. To receive this designation a counsellor must have a minimum of 4000 hours of direct client contact with individuals having a primary diagnosis of addiction and 300 clinical supervision hours. CCAC counsellors must also have 10 hours of clinical supervision in each of the “Twelve Core Functions” which includes: Client screening, client intake, client orientation, treatment planning, client assessment, counselling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referrals, reports and record-keeping, and consultations with other professionals.
