Therapeutic Disclosure Process

Formal Therapeutic Disclosure

Formal therapeutic disclosure (“FTD”) is a mutual, planned, and professionally facilitated event where the sex addict reads a document prepared in advance describing his/her history of sexual infidelity. FTD provides a foundation to begin the process of repairing the damage done to the relationship and to rebuild trust.

Impact Statement

Impact statements should be prepared only after the partner has received and processed formal therapeutic disclosure. The reason for this is that before FTD, the partner doesn’t have the full story about her spouse’s extra-marital behaviors and activities—information that is is vital for preparing an impact statement.

The impact statement is a prepared document that is a statement about the impact your spouse’s deception and infidelity had-and continues to have-on you and follows the data received from the formal disclosure.

Emotional Restitution

An emotional restitution letter is an opportunity for sex addicts to clarify and validate how their behaviour contributed to these losses—how they offended, manipulated, controlled, and deceived their partner when they were active in their addiction. It is a response to the impact statement received and should only be prepared and given after processing the partners impact statement.
