Quitting Porn

The Use of Screen Accountability Tools

The internet can be a dangerous place for someone struggling with compulsive sexual behaviors.  Most importantly, in my experience, anyone who has ever tried to abstain from Porn and admits to being a Porn Addict has not ever been able to succeed at abstaining using sheer will power or by using self reliant strategies.  Simply put, I have not ever seen anyone that I have treated quit Porn on their own.  So the question rises, “So how does one simply quit porn?”  Some might ask why anyone in their right mind would want to give up watching Porn, research is showing us the ever evolving symptoms that have been arising in porn users which is directing many to developing motivation to abstain.  Symptoms such as erectile dysfunction, marital dysfunction, demoralization and addiction are just some of the symptoms to this exposure to “unending novelty”.  This is no easy task, and might I recommend a CSAT therapist who specializes in the assessment and treatment of compulsive sexual behaviors specific to Porn Addiction, along with a recovery support group which strengthens the statement of not being able to quit on ones own.  Another element that is important is having accountability and using specific “accountability software” designed to help those seeking the journey of recovery from Porn Addiction.  The following are resources that I have gathered that have been used by many on their journey and incorporated into the recovery process. I find that Covenant Eyes, the top on the list, has been chosen by many as the most preferred screen accountability tool:
